HELP!!!!! Internet explorer word boxes

For give me I do not know the official name for these boxes. On web pages they are search boxes or login boxes. Well my problem is in Windows 2000 Pro/SP1 whenever I type something my system hangs for about 3 to 5 minutes before it gets to the password box or it hangs for 3 to 5 minutes before I can hit go. Does anyone know what the problem is or how I can fix it?
