Help in Windows MSI file

I have a windows installer .msi file problem. I updated my features and components and updated the old .msi file call it old.msi into a new msi file say new.msi. When I run new.msi it calls old.msi, why is that? What have I done wrong?
I am not an expert on windows installer, please help.
Actually, I want to run an Upgrade but old.msi does not have an Upgrade table, so I am trying to do a reinstall to the upgraded product.

Hi Darseh,
There are basically two types of upgrade:
Minor upgrade: here you are changing your minor version no. of the product and also providing some additional files.
Major upgrade: here you are changing the major version number for ex: 1.0 to 2.0. In this case, you are actually uninstalling the files/components of the old product and installing the files/components of the new product. Accordingly the entry in the control panel gets updated from 1.0 to 2.0.
If you have InstallShield Developer with you - please go through this topic in the help: Contents->Help library->Advanced features->Upgrading an Application->Major upgrades.
Basically, you need to go to the Upgrade table (direct editor) of your new product and make some entries. The help gives all directions.
