i would definitely need some help in setting-up a wireless adhoc connection... or if possible, could anyone provide a url/link or something that would assist me...

my situation is this...

i have two notebook computers that id like to connect adhoc - one is a windows 2000 pro with a wireless pc-card, and the other is a windows xp home with built-in wireless capability.

i first configure the win2kpro pc as a adhoc computer by specifying it as so, and assigning a network name (also called a "SSSID-something")... and no, there was no security key that i assigned.

then i proceeded to turn-on xp-home computer, and set it up to only look for adhoc connections.

the xp machine was indeed able to locate the "network" name provided by the win2kpro machine. so, i used xp's native settings and proceeded to connect to it... after having been warned that connecting to a "no-security" network, etc. etc.

okay, at this point; i have two notebook computers that have their ip address dynamically assigned (IPAPA-something) as 169.294.xxx.yyy, with a subnet mask fo 255.255.0.0...

however, no matter how hard i try, i just couldnt PING one computer from the other.

yes, i have also configured the network Id of the computer for "WORKGROUPS".

is there something i probably missing in my settings/procedure?

id really appreciate any help on the matter <-- this had been a torture for me during the past nights... thanks!!!

for one i would have configured the xp machine to be the host (better built in comp.) i just replied to a post with this same issue and i pasted a link that you may be interested in. it is very helpful for wireless beginners useing xp(aren't we all wireless beginners?)

please ignore the pic.!!! ;-)
