Hello!

First off, I'm not really that much into Adobe PM, I'm doing this as part of a project. Last Adobe PM I used was version 6.5 IIRC, and so far, I've only been involved in layouting stuff in it (the school would take care of printing). Now that I have to do the printing myself (since this is a personal project and not a school matter), I'm having problems.

In Adobe PM, the pages are laid out according to how they would appear, starting from the cover, page 1, page 2, etc. until the back cover. The problem arises when printing, since not like other publications that utilize one whole page, my project calls for one short (8.5 x 11 inch) bond paper to be one spread.

How can I make it that even though it is lay-outed in the usual cover page-to-last page in Adobe PM, when I print it, it goes out as the cover page is side-by-side with the back page, on the opposite side of the paper would be page 1 (behind the cover page) and the last page (behind th back cover page)?

Am I making much sense? Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,
iceenav

Ahhhh. You are talking about the difference between 'printer spreads' and 'reader spreads'.

In the PM menu under Utilites>Plug-ins, you will find one called 'Build Booklet'. This is what you need to click on before printing. There are a few things to watch out for...

1. Ensure that the total number of pages is a multiple of four. If not, add blank pages where appropriate.

2. Ensure that no elements (text boxes, graphics, etc) extend beyond the boundaries of any page. This will confuse the process no end.

3. When you run the plug-in, PM will create a new document. Give it a name that is NOT THE SAME as the original document from which it has been made. You cannot 'unbooklet' the new publication, so if you need to change anything, then you must keep a copy of the original then run the plug-in again.

4. If you have any graphics on the master pages, this sometimes can stop the plug-in running successfully. In this case, delete it/them before running the plug-in, and replace it when the new doc is created. You can treat the new doc as you would any other doc, and make changes to it before printing.

5. If you have any graphics or headings that you wish to extend across the readers spreads, then place two copies, one on each page where it will appear, and then crop them back to where they no longer extend beyond the page. Or just place one copy, crop it back and then re-extend it once you have run the plug-in (this would really only apply to the centre spread).

If you need to know any more, just ask.

P.S. the past tense is laid out, not lay-outed.
