Hi, I am very inexperienced in Crystal Reports but knowledge of database techniques. I need to add a field into an existing report. The reports current access database connection does not contain the field. I believe I will need to create a new connection. However when I try this it I drops all fields, grouping etc from the report. Surely I don't have to completely rewrite do I?

Any help would be most welcome and invaluable.

Apologies again for my naiveness.

Hi,
If I recall correctly ( I do not have a copy of CR handy) when you use the 'Set Datasource' option under the Database menu to specify another database CR should prompt you to remap the existing fields to the new source.

If it's a new database, you need Database > Set Datasource Location. You may need to switch tables one at a time, and any subreports will need to be done as well.

If it's a new field on the same database, use Datesource > Verify Database.

This is based on Crystal 11. It always helps to give your Crystal version - 8, 8.5, 9, 10, 11 or whatever. Methods sometimes change between versions, and higher versions have extra options.
