OK, got new job only thing is they use Domino and notes.

I'm an MS Exchange MCP and have not ever looked into Domino, anyway I want to learn from the start and install a test server to play with.

I get through all the install but am stumped at how to actually connect via domino administrator. The last part of the install tells me it has created a cert.id server.id and gives me a password. Then it tells me its created an administrator user.id and gives me a password.

So I assume I need to use user.id to connect to domino for the first time to set it up and create users??? but its not physically on my server, there is no user.id, the other 2 id files are tho.

Am I getting this wrong? How do you connect with domino administrator after a new install? I have a book but it just jumps forward through this part.

Hello,

Is it an R5 or R6 server? I would move to R6 ASAP (just an opinion). To Administer a Domino Server, you connect to the server via the Domino Admin Client. This is installed on the Admin machine during the Notes setup. You will need to make sure you install the "Full" client, and you will get Designer (create and modify DB's) as well.

If you're on R5, you could launch nlnotes.exe from the Domino Program Directory. This will help you get started by launching a light-weight Notes client on your server.

Did they set you up with an account? If so, Modify your Companies Admin group in the Name and Address Book (names.nsf) from the nlnotes.exe Workspace. Once open, you will want to Open the Server document (see left pane). Not sure where the setting is, but you will find the Admin field.

Once that is done, you will want to connect via your Admin client. To be honest, you can learn a lot from the Admin Client's Help File (once installed). It really goes from Basics to Advance and should help you along.

If you're on R6, nlnotes.exe is NOT recommended. But, it sounds like you R5. Hope this is helpful, and I'm sure other people will have something to add. This forum is pretty active and a lot of people that want to help. So, good luck and let us know if we can help with any additional issues.

Rgds,

John
