Hi, I was setting up a new server (I'm a newbie) and changed all the permission for the /etc /lib /bin directories.

I was following the instructions in Mohammed Kabirs Red Hat Linux 7 Server book to limit each user to his/her folder within ftp. Instead of changing the copies etc, lib, bin directories in the individuals folder I accidently put a slash in front and changed all of the permissions on the main folders instead of the copied ones.

One of the effects I've noticed since I've done this is no one can see any of their files when logging in via ftp.

I realize I wil probably have to go in and correct this by hand... god this is going to be time consuming. Can anyone tell me where I can find a list of what the original permissions should be?

Thanks, Wayne

/etc /lib and /bin should be "chmod" 755.

Unless you used the "chmod -R" command to change the permissions recursively throughout the directories, you should be able to fix it by issuing the follogin command:
chmod 755 /etc, use the same command and replace /etc with /bin and /lib. d3funct

The software required `Windows 95 or better', so I installed Linux.
