Please help. I can't seem to insert discretionary hyphens anywhere in my document. I've tried almost everything from dictionary to hyphenation preferences. My InDesign just won't accept any hyphen. Someone from another thread solved this by uninstalling and installing InDesign which i cannot do as of the moment since i dont have admin rights over my PC. PLEASE HELP!

If you create a new Paragraph Style (Window menu/type/paragraph styles), you can set very clear hyphenation rules.

You can also select just the text you're wotking on and go to the paragraph window and check the hyphenate box.

If you type - right into a word, without hyphenation turned on, ID will just read it as part or the word, so you cna also do that when necessary.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4
