I am trying to upgrade the microcode for my cdrom drive. I downloaded the code from the net. The readme file explain how to unzip the file and to copy it to the tmp directory and that's it.

I have an IBM rs6000. Machine type 7026, Model B80, it has a cdrom drive no diskette and tape drive. I tried diag but I didn't see an option to download the microcode for the cdrom. Can it be done from smitty?
Any help would be appreciated

after you move everything to tmp after decompressing...
I think it is
./genucode -s cd0

but hardware should do it for you?
if it gacks it is call hardware.

Look into the "genucode" utility.
