Help i am new with sql server

i have just downloaded apache triad which contains php perl sql server among other things i dont really know about.

I want to be able to create a database to start manipulating and creating tables. How can i create a database? in the past the database has alwasy been there and i just need to add the tables.

Can anyone give me a push in the right direction
