Help!

I am attempting to upgrade my NT 4.0 Workstation SP6 to Windows XP Professional.

The first 30 minutes of installation was fine, then it instructed me that it was to reboot the PC.

Upon rebooting the PC I am given the following message:

File \$WIN_NT$.~LS\i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded.
The error code is 14.
Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit.

Pressing 'any key' restarts the PC but returned me the same error message.

Can anyone help.

Thank you for the reply and the link.

However, (my fault) I didn't tell you the full story.

I have attempted to install the Windows XP Pro Upgrade from within Windows NT 4.0 Workstation. Upon calling a local IT Call Centre they confirmed that this was the reason for the error message.

All upgrades/installations should be carried out 'outside' of the main OS.

Just get the PC to boot from the CD on startup and you will be fine.

Thanks again.
