I need a little bit of assistance on this topic. I am a PBX "noob" and have been trying to assist a user in configuring his Fax messaging with call pilot. All of our users have a regular 4 digit extension that is also an outside line when you add our prefix. Each user also has a second 4 digit DN configured to serve as a fax line. You must dial the 7 digits to get this to work. Each fax DN is assigned a line and I have placed the number of that line in the "Express Messaging Line" box in the user's Call Pilot mailbox settings. This is the way all other users are set up. Now, instead of ringing to a fax tone, the line goes right into the user's voice mailbox. Is there a configuration setting someplace else that I need to adjust? Perhaps something to do with the user's main DN/Phone number?

I appreciate the help in advance as I am a Windows Server Engineer trying to muddle through a Nortel BCM 400 PBX.

Beside the box for "Express Messaging Line", is there a tickbox for "Fax only"?
On a BCM50, ticking this makes the system answer that line with a fax tone, without playing the user's outgoing mailbox greeting.

Good Morning-

There is no check box for "Fax Only" near the "Express Messaging Line" box that I can see. Could this be located somewhere else?

No your version does not have it. The call will have to go thru the greeting. In the docs it tells you to record a gretting that says you have reached my MB leave a message if this is a fax press send now.Or after the greeting the faxes will get the tone.

I read about that feature, I will send a fax and see if he receives it. The funny thing is that my other users' lines ring right to a fax tone and to me they are setup similar. I wonder what the trick to that is. Thanks!

make sure that the target line for the fax is not assigned to a DN and that the prime set is set to the CP ext.

As cook mentioned verify in the vm box settings of that individual that the Fax only box is checked.

It looks like the target line is setup as you stated, Kungfumstr. I do not have the "Fax Only" option in my Call Pilot Version. How do I bypass the greeting and go straight to the Fax Tone on my version? Other user's fax lines bypass the greetings now. Thanks in advance [ponder]

I got some help from a friend who is a Nortel guy. He'd run into this problem before and had notes on it. Subsequently, I also found this post on the board with the same info.
The gui configs were correct but a command line function had to be executed. Long live the command line. Thanks for the gui help, everyone. Hopefully this will help someone else out if they run into the problem.
