I have been using InDesign CS3 for close to a year now but all of a sudden it is taking about 3-4 minutes to open up various pages. I have it installed on many computers (I teach)....and it does this with all of them (all of a sudden).

I have tried many things: uninstalling, reinstalling, etc... but nothing seems to work. I notice the pages it has problems with say me enabler plug in (missing) but we have never used an older version with the pages we are trying to open.

Can someone help because I have been through HOURS of trying to fix this?

THANK YOU!!!!!!!

If it's happening to all machines, and just started, it could be related to any updates you might have downloaded from Adobe, or updates to the computer OS. Over the course of time we've had updates do dastardly things to us. The latest was an upgrade from OSX 10.3 to 4 on some machines. Photoshop would not open PSDs or other graphics files when double clicking the file - had to use Open command. Solution was to trash PS and its prefs and reload.

The other possible cause is that the particular page (s) was created using a plugin that was not installed on your various machines. You might try opening the offending pages and see what they contain. If you know who created them, you might look at that machine and see if there's a plugin installed that's not on other machines. If the file(s) was brought from a student's home or other outside source, that could also lead to the plugin problem.

We are using PC. I just did a FRESH install on one computer (to test it out) and I am having the same result.

As far as students loading plugins, I have it setup to where they cannot make changes to settings,etc...

I have no clue what else to try???

Where did the page calling for the plugin come from? It does not matter if you install ID again and again. If the page is calling for a plugin and that plugin is missing, problems will occur.

Also, have you installed the newest XP update? If so, that could have something to do with things.

Try doing a Save As of the document, and call it a slightly different name.

If that's not working the try exporting to a .inx file.

Another possibility is that the Adobe installer has a problem with antivirus software. So before installing InDesign disable all safety software.

Worth a try
