I am trying to connect two different exchange domains on
the same LAN without internet. I will include basic
information below. My question is this network is not
connected to the internet so how can we send mail to
each other? From what I read it looks like we need to
configure SMTP send connectors and use MX records? We do
not use a smart host.
I tried setting up the SMTP connector and MX
records but it seems I am missing something because it
is not working. From what we know are firewalls are not
blocking SMTP. Do I need to create a MX record for only
my mail server in my DNS or do I need to create a link
to his mail server also in my DNS or does he only create
the MX record for his own in his DNS? It seems I need a
correct combination of settings in the exchange server
and DNS but could use some assistance on what that might
be.
My Info:
Windows Server 2008 R2
Exchange 2010 (updated)
Exchange Server name: myexchange (using generic names
and IP)
Domain: mydomain.com
FQDN: myexchange@mydomain.com
IP of Exchange server: 192.168.1.1
Their Info
