Help configuring these scripts please!!!

I'm working on a page where I want to use two different scripts I found at theJavascript Source. One adds a description layer and the other a newsbox.I'm a newbie and I obviously misunderstood totally how to configure the scripts with my variables. Please, please help me!!!

it should be
