Hi I've never really worked with exchange before and could use a hand...

We have 5 users currently using POP email account and would like to implement exchange. I understand that I can configure the POP connector to deliver POP mail to a users inbox. I think that part is really simple. That's inbound mail, how do I configure what I assume is an smtp connector for outbound email?

You right click on SMTP, new connector and pretty much hit OK. Its actually easier than doing the inbound POP.

There is only a pop connector (for incoming email from a pop3 mailbox) in SBS. Not in Exchange standard or Exchange Enterprise.

I beleive there are 3rd party apps that will do it though.

Windows and NT Admin.

With only 5 users, SBS is probably a given. But if you get Exchange, go for either POPConn or GFi Mail Essentials.

this is indeed running with SBS 2003.

I guess I only need to confirm what I am thinking.

Under exchange system manager>connectors>SMTP Connector>Properties>
Create a virual server bulkhead, which is simply the server itself and then create and address space that reflects the outbound mail server, such as smtp.domain.com or mail.domain.com etc...

is this correct? Any suggestions or tips on how I can make my life easier as it relates to exchange

1. Use SBS and its wizards. Check.
2. Ask questions clearly and sensibly on Tek Tips. Check.

You're doing fine :)
