Hi Groupwise Gurus --

I've been working with a local computing company to set up a Groupwise SMTP mail setup for our organization, but the network engineer that was working with us left his company before finishing the job, leaving us a bit high-and-dry. I'm in the process of trying to finish up his work (the company hasn't been very prompt about finishing this job), and I need to get up to speed on this stuff pretty quickly.

I've been looking at the information on the Novell web site about setting up an SMTP mail feed with static IP addressing ( and I had a couple of questions.

First of all, what exactly is an SMTP feed? How does this differ from a simple mail exchange record? I imagine that this shouldn't cost anything additional to set up with our ISP, right? (Please! :))

Second, what is an ETRN host? I understand that it's our ISP's mail server, but what is ETRN (i.e., what do the initials stand for, and what does it mean)?

Third (and finally!), what is an ETRN queue? The Novell document says it's the same as our domain name, but that doesn't seem to make sense to me. Any ideas?

A thousand thanks in advance!

Don
