Ok I have a very probably stupid question... but as I dont know how to fix it, so maybe you will be able to help me

here we go, the output of the netstat command report some nic cards set up properly with their IP - so no problem here, but there are some nic card not in used and not set up appearing with a "*" and I just cant remove it using ifcongig down , detach, it just keep reappeating.

the thing is even if I remove it from the server using rmdev the problem is the card will reappear via cfmgr so this wont fix my problem.

Dual port card, 1 port used and configured, the second port not in used
en1* 1500 link#3 0.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx - 0 0 0 0 0
en3* 1500 link#4 0.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx - 0 0 0 0 0

how do you get rid of those ent* entries from netstat ouptu ?
what commands to run and which order ?

Thanks a lot in advance for whoever can help me here :)

Cheers
Al.

I'm not sure you want to do anything here. As you stated you can remove the devices but cfgmgr will detect them each time the server is booted.

Why do you want to delete these devices? It should be fine to leave them "unconfigured".

If they do get configured for any reason, rmdev / cfgmgr will "de-configure" them for you, since this seems impossible to do via smitty if a card is already configured (at least in my experience).

Hi.

Try to detach the adapter ...

something like this: chdev -l 'en3' -a state='detach'

Or use smitty tcpip, Further Configuration,Network Interfaces, Network Interface Selection, Change / Show Characteristics of a Network Interface, en3 Standard Ethernet Network Interface.

Use F4 to set state to detach.

what about excluding the adapters you don't want? maybe you can just do:

# netstat -rn |grep -v en1 |grep -v en3
