Help! Can you make tables in Indesign like in excel?

I'm currently working on a design project, i've designed some invoice note in illustrator i wanted to know if i could take this design into InDesign and then apply formulas that will allow me to calculate the VAT and toatal for the invoice. I have one made in excel but on the design side it looks poor.

You will need to learn some basic scripting for InDesign as the program itself will not do formulas like Excel. InDesign only imports spreadsheets.

You may want to stick with Excel for your invoice if you need to do calculations. There is no reason why Excel design features would be limiting. You can export designs from Illustrator as WMF and place in Excel. Excel is also much cheaper than InDesign and Illustrator if you intend to share your files.
