Hi,

Im getting the following errrors in my backup log on Arcserve2000 running on NT4sp6a with Exchange 5.5. These errors arent consistantly the same, they change per backup:

20011221 202429 TAPE E6300 Windows NT SCSI PORT Error [ABSL:1060 CMD:Ah] SCSI Command Retry.

20020102 133540 27 E8602 Failed to read from database. (DBNAME=Individual Mailboxes\Andrew Robinson\Sent Items, EC=EXCH Exchange Agent -- (402) "Exchange system error".)

The Arcserve builds that are running are out of the box (Brightstor) builds with no additional service packs.

Im also getting Aw0004/aw0002 errors but not too concerned about them.

If anyone can help, it would be greatly apreciated.

Cheers

Ah...

just read through the forum properly and seen the thread about 402 errors. Will try disabling Groupshield and try again.

As for the ec6300 error. will update the drivers to hp native ones not the nt4-preinstalled ones and see how that goes.

Cheers

ARCserve reads straight from the firmware, do not install or run any drivers whotsoever.

You are correct about the 402 error, it is quite usually related to AV on the exchange server. You may also want to run a edbutil or isinteg to make sure there is no corruption there.

Arcserveguru. Any ideas how to troubleshoot the ec6300 issue?

I have also noticed that there are intermittant ec8602-418 errors occuring aswell. It does happen to appear after a 402 error, maybe correcting the 402 will cause the 418 to be resolved?

I have read the thread regarding the QO6202 patch after SP2/3. These patches appear to resolve the 418 "run out of memory" error. Is service pack 3 a good bet or not recommended? SP2 looks as if it has been removed from the website. Any ideas?

Cheers, Andy.

In Addition: Have spotted the following in the System Event Log:

The device, \Device\ScsiPort1, did not respond within the timeout period.

Looks like it is being held up there somehow.

The ec6300 error is a very classic SCSI port error. It beckons a problem with the hardware. May a conflicting LUN?

Yeah, update to SP3 on both ARCserve and all agents in your network, then apply the 6202 patch. You are correct by the way, the 6202 patch does get rid of the e8602/418 errors. Also, what you see in the event log indicates that the SCSI port timed out :p But I guess you could tell, this may be because you received those errors during arcserve which in turn left the SCSI port open and waiting for information to be sent from the database agent. As the database agent had crashed no more data was sent, and voila a timeout! :) Chances are that this may even be causing the e6300 SCSI port errors your having as they may be related.

Apply the patches and it should all be resolved :) (fingers crossed)

good luck,

Nice one cheers :)

Il give it a try.

Cheers, Andy.

I have patched AS2000:
Backup + Exchange Server to SP3 + QO6202 + QO6822
Terminal Servers to SP3
Other Win2k clients to SP3
Unixware servers to SP3

Also changed DB Pruning to after the backup :)

Everything is working fine. EC8602, EC6300 errors all cured and the backup seems to be running alot quicker than before.

Cheers, Andy,
