hi all
i am newbie of linux. yesterday i have setup the suse linux and it also setup the apache server automatically. Whenever the linux start, the apache server start too.I tested the server by browsing the "LOCAL HOST" and a suse help manual page showed up. So that's fine, the servers works.
After i dialed up to internet(via broadband) and use netstat to find out my local ip (not 127.0.0.1), i ask my friend to browse to my ip, but the brower show error: can not find server and can not display the page.
Please help, any replys are appreciated.
thx

try checking the ip witrh the command:
ifconfig

Hope this helps!!!

Hi notmen,
I take it you have a static IP address? If so, have your friend type http:// in front of your IP address to see if that helps. You will also need to check /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf to see if your server is listening to port 80. Look for a line that reads " Listen 80" If it's not there or is commented out, add it or uncomment the line. I would use a text editor rather than linuxconfig because I heard horror stories about linuxconfig corrupting your httpd.conf file. It's allways a good idea to make a backup copy at any rate before making changes to any file. If you do make changes to http.conf, make sure you stop and restart httpd (apache).
