Help About crashes IE5 and hotmail doesn't work

my explorer works fine normally but at the moment Clicking on the help menu then about internet explorer stops it responding totally. Also, hotmail doesn't open the inbox. I have unread messages acording to messenger but i can't read them because the inbox won't open. it tries for ages then says cannot find server.
How can i fix this?

Try the Internet Explorer repair feature first. Go to Start>Settings>ControlPanel>Add/Remove Programs, scroll down until you see Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 & Internet Tools, click the Add/Remove button and select repair.

Or go to Start>Run, type msinfo32, click the Tools menu and select Internet Explorer Repair Tool.

Messenger??? Do you mean Netscape's Messenger?
What are the exact error messages
