Hello...long time lurker, first time poster.

I've been managing 3 linked BCM-50 systems for the past 3 years now, and our company has outgrown the 12 available voice mail seats we have at one of our locations. It's time to install more seats.

We are now out of warranty on this system, and I would like to install 2 new seats for voicemail myself. I'm pretty familiar with BCM Element Manager, so I'm fairly certain I can handle this myself.

Can anyone share some tips on the best way to acquire and install a few more VM seats on this system? I know I need an authorization code, but I'm not sure how things work with getting codes if I'm not able to use the Nortel registration system, as I'm not a licensed Nortel tech.

Ideas? Please be gentle to the newbie :)

You'll have to find a dealer who can get you the Keycodes, and yes then you would need access to the Avaya KRS to download the keycode. Then it is just a matter of loading them onto the BCM, which is done through the EM.

I hope those things are release 6.0 because you won't be able to get codes from Avaya for anything lower than that.

Of course, you might find keycodes on ebay or similar places for your release but you will still need someone to generate the actual license file in KRS for you. Shouldn't be a problem as there are many on here who would do it for you....including me.

Good Luck.

No, they're running version 5.0. IIRC, that's what happened the last time I contacted my local re-seller for some additional seats. Instead of a couple hundred dollar quote for more seats, I got a quote for several thousand to upgrade the systems to release 6.0 so they could get the seats. When I asked them why I could just buy the older ones, they told me they they're not available new any more. I'd have to buy them on the second hand market.

So...something like this?

Okay, I've purchased a few extra seats for my system, and now I need to activate the keycodes. Is there someone here that can assist?

Bump. Is anyone out there able to register some keycodes for me in KRS?

The company that sold you the authorization code is supposed to do it.

If they have authorization to sell the codes they would be able to activate them unless they are not actually an authorized dealer and then I would wonder how they were able to obtain the codes in the first place. If the dealer who sold you the codes is not an authorized dealer then you will have to pay someone else to do it. Look around for companies who are authorized dealers either in your area or who do remote programming services in your region.

Yes It's a major pain in the ass and demonstrates how unfriendly it can be to deal with Avaya or Nortel before them as a customer. Yes it doesn't meet most customers expectations of customer service. Yes it does not reflect modern thinking in this day and age. Yes Avaya is clinging to an old fashioned business model. Even as a business partner it can be a major pain in the ass to deal with acquiring access and using these private tools on the website. So much so that most places will often share the login they use to access many of these tools instead of jump through the hoops required to setup company administrator accounts, and authorize your domain name and then authorize requests from employees for access.

This board doesn't encourage solicitation of sales and services, it is supposedly trying to stay focused on questions and answers. You will notice there is no buy/sell/trade section or private messaging feature here to facilitate that kind of thing. At the very bottom of the posting page it says "Promoting, selling, recruiting, coursework and thesis posting is forbidden."

Thanks for the feedback. The vendor I bought them from is capable of activating them, but only on a R6 system. I'm still on R5. Someone else here mentioned that they would be willing to assist, so I was simply putting the call out to notify them that I would like said assistance.

Your vendor is misleading you. If you have a valid authorization code for any release, you can generate a license file for it as long as that code has been put into the KRS database.

What they are telling you is that they can't buy authorization codes from Avaya for anything less than release 6.0

Apparently, requests for contact info are frowned upon here. I was able to activate my licenses no problem with my vendor, once I got the right tech on the phone :)

Perhaps I should put my company's website on my signature, as well as my phone number. Seems like that's legit here *rolls eyes*

If it will make you happy then do it.
