Ok,

Installing a new IP phone system. Trying to setup tagged vlans
802.1q so I can set traffic priority for the ip phones.

I have tried to find a howto with no success. I can create port based vlans no problem, but I can't get the port to get *tagged*

I create a vlan, and I can only set untagged members, also the PID is very confusing. The nortel docs have a very confusing flow chart that leaves a lot to be desired.

Anyone have a white paper or decent howto this old sys admin could read?

Thanks

Heres how I do it:

I'll assume that VLAN 1 is the data vlan and that all ports are members of that VLAN. Build your voice VLAN (VLAN 10 for example). Assign VLAN 10 to all ports that will have phones connected. Those ports should now be members of both VLANs - you can check under VLAN display by Port, under the VLAN configuration menu.

On the port you want to connect a phone to, set the PVID of the port to 1 - that puts untagged traffic into VLAN 1. Change the 'tagging' method to Untag PVID only. The phone will send out voice packets tagged to the voice VLAN ID, but the switchport in the phone will send them out as untagged.

Hope this helps

Hello the 'tagging' method "Untag PVID" don't exit in Baystack 450. Can you clarify you explanation ?

Thanks
