Last week I had a catalyst 4507 reboot on me and get stuck in rom mon. I reloaded the IOS and got the system back up. This week, I come in to find that it has rebooted again and is in rom mon. This time I upgraded the rom mon version along with the ios. System came back up. Was up for 4 hours and rebooted on me again, but this time it did come back up...I'm just anticipating another rom mon boot sometime in the near future. Anyone have any ideas on anything I should check for?? I did notice that the falling threshold has been reached?? (would that cause this??)

Please anything you can point me towards!!

Becky

Falling threshold being reaches seems to indicate that Storm Control has been enabled on the switch and, at some point, the rising threshold has been reached whereby the switch stops forwarding packets until the falling threshold is reached.

I don't think this will cause the switch to boot into ROMMON but it should be a concern if your rising threshold is being reached.

See if the following URL helps in diagnosing what is wrong:

Sure you have stable power supplies ? Also for the rommon problem check to see what the config register is , should bve 0x2102 with the appropriate boot statement in the config . Check the logs and make sure the power supplies looks ok with the show environment commands .

Using Cisco Network Assistant, the system error messages I receive right before it reboots are...

Description: Falling trap is generated because the value of etherStatsEntry.4.223 has fallen below the falling-threshold value 300000000

Explanation: A Falling Trap has been generated. The value of the specified\n\ MIB object has fallen below the falling threshold value as\n\ configured by the <CmdBold>rmon alarm<NoCmdBold> command for\n\ the specified object

And...

Description: SSH 1.99 has been enabled

Explanation: The SSH protocol has been enabled for connections

Recommended Action: No action necessary - informational message

Type: SSH-5-ENABLED

And...

Description: System restarted --

Explanation: A reload or restart was requested.

Recommended Action: This is a notification message only. No action is required.

Type: SYS-5-RESTART

KiscoKid, I was using that url earlier and it did help me to get where I was. Any ideas about the falling threshold error message above?

Vippergg, I don't think there is a power problem. All logs seem to be ok there..

Thanks,
Becky
