Hello,

When I do a who -a I get the (amongst otherthings) the following:
xtra pts015 Mar 6 11:04 1:32 19758 id=tn01 term=9 exit=0
xtra + pts016 Mar 6 09:39 1:30 19842
root tty01m Jan 31 10:45 old 23615 id=tm01 term=0 exit=0
xtra + pts017 Mar 6 09:43 1:25 19993
root + pts018 Mar 6 10:04 1:05 20647
xtra + pts019 Mar 6 09:50 1:19 20182
root + pts020 Mar 6 09:52 1:17 20274

How can I get rid of these old logins? I have tried with "kill -9 19758" but that didn't make much of a difference. Any help appreciated. As you can probably gather I am very new to Unix...

People log out but still show up in who

This information is logged in /etc/utmp and /etc/utmpx. In 5.0.4+, this information is cleared when the system reboots. For earlier releases, edit /etc/bcheckrc as follows. You will see the first of the following three lines already there; add the other two below it.

/bin/su bin -c "/etc/devnm / 2>/dev/null" | /etc/setmnt
[ -w /etc/utmp ] && > /etc/utmp
[ -w /etc/utmpx ] && > /etc/utmpx

Also, "cwtmp" ftp://ftp.armory.com/pub/scobins/cwtmp is a freely available utility that clears stale logins without rebooting.
