Hello,

In my company are some compaq proliant 1850R.
I installed win2k adv server on some of them.
I configured 2 Disks (Raid1) and 3 Disks (Raid5).
The server is working normally, but sometimes (3 times a day), I get the eventlog-messsage "The device, \Device\Scsi\Cpqarray1, did not respond within the timeout period."

I have the newest firmware on my smartarry 221- controller
and the newest bios on my mainboard.

thanks for your help

What about newest firmware on your drives? And also are all the drives in each array exactly the same.
You can sometimes get conflicts between different brands. (All Compaq but they use Seagaste, WD etc.)

If you have got the SCSI card in a hot swappable PCI slot, try moving it to a non hot-swappable PCI slot -----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"

TheLad, there are no hotpluggable PCI slots in the 1850R, but this would be a good suggestion for a system that has one.
You are basically getting SCSI bus timeouts and inconsistency in the communication between your drives, Raid controller, and the PCI bus. The Firmware on the drives is also a good idea.
I have seen this issue when people usually ran a microsoft update of some type. Update the raid controller driver or run the Compaq Supportpaq off the latest smart start CD (v.5.40) or download it.
Once you have a fresh copy of the raid controller driver monitor the system for error or run the Array diagnostics utility off the smart start CD.
Check to see if the cable from the Drive backplane to the raid controller is not broken or has bent pins. In the end if the issue is persistent you may need to isolate the drive path by replacing the scsi backplane, raid controller and the scsi cable.
If you still have warranty left over, use it and get the replacements after you have tried this. Compaq won't argue with you if have done your homework.

Good Luck.
