Hello,
I have gotten my program to do the following:
1) Read in the command line
ex. compress filename1 filename2

My program opens filename1 without error.
Creates Filename2 without error.

Only problem is, why does it have $ always as the first letter of the
output filename?
ex.
If the user enters compress hello1 hello2

the file that is created is: $ello2

Please help.

Quite likely you are using the DOS function 09h to output the name of the first file. So you decided to just put a $ sign after the first filename IN THE COMMAND LINE AREA. My suggestion is to copy the filenames to your own data area and play with them there. "Information has a tendency to be free. Which means someone will always tell you something you don't want to know."
