Hello I am new to a new organization - Las Vegas Casino as a SQL Server DBA to the organization.
The databases are small as the organization is relatively small compared to others around here.
Based on the fact that there is a lot of OLTP online transaction processing occurring everyday. Sorry, I am from the Oracle world.
I will like anyone to recommend a backup strategy for me.
They are currently using VEEAM (The software provides backup, restore and replication functionality for virtual machines, physical servers and workstations as well as cloud-based workload)for granular backup to disk level for ALL systems including NETWORK, MIDDLE-WARE and DATABASE.
I will like to propose the following:
1) Continue to use VEEAM, to prevent a single point of failure during recovery, in addition I will like them to do a weekly full backup in Full recovery Mode. Then do daily incremental backups for some databases and the rest of busy database can have transactional log backups every 5 mins.
2) In addition to above, we can use local backup up to disc with the same strategy, weekly full backup in Full recovery Mode. Then do daily incremental backups for some databases and the rest of busy database can have transactional log backups every 5 mints. The only different from 1) is that backups will appear in local disk alone.
3) Tripple sure the recovery by creating a free account in Azure Cloud, and propagate/shipped 2) into the Cloud once the 2) is finished every night. Remember, I tell you the databases are relatively small, but growing exponentially.

Please let me know:
If the strategy of a weekly full backup in Full recovery Mode. Then do daily incremental backups for some databases and the rest of busy database can have transactional log backups every 5 mints. The only different from 1) is that backups will appear in local disk alone.

Also, can one also shipped the backups sets to Azure Cloud?

Thanks in-advance for your help.

First recommendation would be to do disk mirroring (RAID) so that there is a second copy of the data for failover (and backup). The RAID disk could be in the cloud.

Another possibility is getting a second server and doing replication at the database level. Again, the second server could be in the cloud.
