Hello everybody:
I need some opinions on this scenario. We have an AS400 720e that we mainly using as a web server. Comes 2003, we will pull the plug and instead move to a Win/Intel platform for all our processing (new Win app). I've been with the AS400 box for the past 16 years and I'm faced with 'issues' in this turn of events. Our data are now in a SQL box and during the last couple of months, I've been struggling to create similar reports using Crystal Report. I came across ASNA Visual RPG and I'm about to purchased the package.
My question is twofold: Is there a utility out there that converts SQL data to DB2. I'm thinking of moving the SQL data to my AS400 (everynight) and do my development there either using native ILE RPG or create a Windows frontend using the ASNA product. That utility should be a 2 way traffic, meaning i should be able to move my files back and forth. In this setup I can use the 720e as my backup. You never know what will happen to my SQL server. Everybody knows how realiable the 400 is. Secondly, if I'm stuck with the Win/Tel platform, any comment on ASNA Visual RPG 4.0 and Visual Basic .NET or VB 6.0. Is is worth to shift to VB at this point?
Thanks in advance
