Hello All,

I am facing hanging problem with ultra 10 system and that
time I get the following messages.

Jan 14 10:21:10 ultrasparc unix: SUNW,hme0: Using Internal Transceiver
Jan 14 10:21:10 ultrasparc unix: SUNW,hme0: 100 Mbps full-duplex Link Up


Someone suggested me edit the /etc/system file and put the
following entry in /etc/system file.

set hme:hme_adv_autoneg_cap=0
set hme:hme_adv_100T4_cap=0
set hme:hme_adv_100fdx_cap=1
set hme:hme_adv_100hdx_cap=0
set hme:hme_adv_10fdx_cap=0
set hme:hme_adv_10hdx_cap=0

I did the same and rebooted the system also but still i am facing same problem.

Please help me out.

What exactly is the problem?

The messages above say that your machine is using it's internal transceiver & it's Link is Up.

Sounds fine to me!

These messages appear in /var/adm/messages are are normal
The entries in /etc/system seem OK

you should also have /etc/hostname.hme0 containing your hostname

The link is up, but has this worked in the past or is this a new system that you have just built? Can you telnet in?

As harris79 says with the information you've supplied all looks as it should be.

I think that your problem is with a switch. The switch is probably configured to auto-negotiation and should be reconfigured to 100 Full Duplex.

The mods for the /etc/system will lock the system into 100MB FDX but you do have to lock the switch as well. Sun and most switch manufacturers have implemented the autonegotiation differently. This means that for any hiccup on the line, the connection will drop back to half duplex with resulting collisions and poor performance.

Can you tell me how to check solaris 2.7(ultra 60)system network card speed?

ndd -get /dev/hme link_mode 0 = half duplex 1 = full duplex
