Hello again.
I am trying to install FreeBSD 4.4 on another PC so I can fiddle around without smashing the working one. I am installing from CDROM, just burned the iso image.Unfortunately I only have a 130MB hard disk :-( Is it possible to install on this size? I don't need X and that kind of stuff. I keep getting the error that the disk is full after about 35% of the installation.

...even though I choose 'minimal' installation

I believe you have to choose a "custom" or advanced installation, and pick your software packages very carefully.

It's really pointless to install FreeBSD on such a small drive, though, if you really want to "fiddle around". You can't really do anything interesting, such as compile sources, or play around with different services, etc...

Hard disks are dirt cheap. Just find a used 2GB drive for $40. You can probably even get one for free if you ask around. -------------------

or even better, try to install picobsd on a floppy ;-)
$0.02
:)

Hey aax, how is that beter than getting a free 2 GB hard drive and installing full FreeBSD? \me laughs

I know u can use PicoBSD for restoring a system, or troubleshooting, etc... but what else u gonna to with that? (OK, I guess you could use it to experiment with shell scripts and stuff.)

But hey, sometimes these challenges are fun. I once installed FreeBSD on a system with a 400MB hard drive, and managed to get generic utilities, and Apache/PHP/MySQL, but that was about it.

u gonna call me or what ;-) -------------------

BIS,

Do you want to fiddle around with FreeBSD 4.4? Then get the 4.4 mini ISO install from ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/i386/ISO-IMAGES/4.4/4.4-mini.iso ;-)

Hope this helps,
Tom.
