Hello,

A while ago I installed Red Hat (7.1 I think), then didn't use it for several months and subsequently forgot my passwords, so now I can't use the OS. I run Windows 98 usually (yeah sorry !), with an optional boot to the Linux partition. Besides using fdisk to delete the partition, does anybody know any default usernames/passwords, or any hacks to get into the OS ?

Or do I just need a long nap in a rubber room ?

Cheers,

Ben

Sure...

What boot loader are you using? Either way you need to get into the text mode of the boot loader and enter a command.

If its LILO you will need to boot by typing linux single e.g

boot: linux single

If its GRUB you will need to hit e or something to edit the boot command. Go to the end of the boot command line and add single to the end of it.

I think this should do it.

For more info post back or do a google for: linux boot single user

Hope this helps [smurf]
