Heartbeat Discovery not working ??

I went into All Systems Collections and deleted a known pingable system. I am trying to test the "Heartbeat" and "AD Group" discovery. HB is set for 1hr interval and AD is set for 1 day interval. Both timed intervals have passed and I still don't see the deleted system re-populate back into the All Systems Collections.

Any Ideas? Am I missing something?
thank you

You need to right click the collection select all tasks select update collection membership then click on refresh

Right...actually I did remember to do that but I still don't get this client being "Re-Discovered"...hmmmm

You will have to look at some logs to get to the bottom of it. Check the inventoryagent.log on the client and check when the DDR was created. Then view the either the dataldr.log or ddm.log on the site server to see what the site server did with the record. I would check the ddm.log first.

Am I right in thinking you have this resolved now Roni?

Hope this Helps.

Well, THe client is now back in the "All Systems" collections with settings:
Site code <Blank>
Client <No>
Assigned <Yes>

I believe these were the same settings prior to deleting this user. It doesn't appear that the manual push of the client is working either.

I am open for solutions

thank you
ron

Did you check the client manually, to see if the System Managem object is in Control Panel, like I mentioned in the other post.

Hope this Helps.

I haven't - I will do this and get back.
If system manager is in Control Panel, can I remotely change settings for this client and why would the Admin console show this system not having a client installed?

thank you
ron

becasue the DDR hasn't been returned yet, or your haven't updated collection and refreshed since the client installed.

Hope this Helps.

Well one of 2 things is happening or not happening. I have updated collection and refreshed several times but info still shows system having no client. I will physically take a look at this system to see if client has been installed. If it has then there is an issue with reporting back to site (I am doubtful this is the issue). I believe that the client did not get installed, if this is the case...why after several attempts to manually push?

ron

Have you specified a Client Installation Account....as documented in my guide under Configuring the Site.

Site Hierarchy > XXX > Site Settings > Client Installation Methods > Client Push Installation : Properties > Accounts tab > you needed to have created a AD User in ADU&C with Enterprise Admin permissions, and add this here (with the Yellow Star)

Hope this Helps.

Yes, there is an account listed, this account does have Enterprise Admin rights. I just set up a test box next to me here and I added it to the domain yesterday, went into AD discovery to force a discovery, did an update/refresh. THe client did not show up in the list till this morning. So this is the first issue I'd like to visit.....it's as if the forced discovery did not and does not work. I will now try to manually push the client to this system.

on the server open c:\sms\logs\ccm.log in SMS trace
press f3, type "installed on machinename" (obviously without ""s and machine name for the trouble machine, type it exactly.
Search the file for this, start at the bottom and search up.
Look underneath this, and you will see the installation procedure.
See what you can spot

post all the messages from there upto <======END REQUEST

Hope this Helps.

Windows XP SP2? Disabled the firewall?
Try logging on to the problem machine with the account that you specified in the Client Installation Methods, Installation Account

Hope this Helps.

uh ohhhh - Fiewall was Enabled.
Firewall DISabled now. Sending more cash your way.
Is there a rety failed client command or do I simply go back to highlight client, right click, manual install client?

ron

it will automatically try and reinstall everytime the heartbeat discovery runs, or you can manually push.

Hope this Helps.

well,,,,,still no luck with a manual install on a new system sitting next to me. I am not sure what is missing. Firewall is off, site account is enterprise admin, when I right click on system to manually push client install here is what I have checked:
Install Client (Advanced)
NO client install options are selected (next screen)
Finish,

Here are the logs from SMS Trace:
