I had a phone tech out working on the phone lines for a new office. He was going to install the DSL modem while he was out there. He left without openning the DSL modem box.

When I asked why he didn't install the DSL modem. He stated that he didn't hear the data on the DSL line with the BUTTSET.

Can you do this?
Never hear you can hear the DSL on the line.

yes you can, when using a butt-set in front of the filters, if you check behind the filters then you can't here it.

I have never heard it untill the modem has been installed on the line then it will generate the noise.

yep its not there until the modem syncs up

he should have have plugged the modem in and waited for it to sync

either didn't know what he was doing or used it as a excuse to get out (it is friday afternoon )

Maybe it was the excuse thing...

If it's ADSL you can hear a slight hum on the line coming from the CO, when IT'S connected to the modem that's when you'll hear the "white noise" , and I don't know where you are but here in NY they even have a meter they place on the line to determine max speed you can get!

Some new NID's have the filter built in with a specific place for the DSL to connect.
