Headsets with 4406 Phones

Do I have to program buttons (on and off) on the telephone set to get the headsets to work. This seems like a waste of buttons and poor engineering when Nortel etc just requires that you press the headset button.
 
Yes, you need to put a "Headset Status" on a button with lights, and a "Headset Hang-up" on any button (lights not needed, but you may want to group them together).

I learned a long time ago not to worry about "why" they did it that way. It'll drive you crazy! Just learn "HOW" and things will go a lot easier.
