Avaya IPO 9.1.4. We use Plantronics CS540 and another older model of Plantronics headset. When I install a headset on one of our 9608g phones and press the button on the headset to take a call, it does not take the set off hook and allow dial tone in. I can press the headset button and then also press the button on the headset to get it to work, but I would rather be able to just press the one on the headset to get off hook. Am I missing something?

Did you purchase and connect an EHS (electronic hook switch) cable between the headset and the phone?

go to plantronics.com they will have what biv343 has suggested, we use them all the time and work great!

derfloh, I also have and tried the APV-63 cable.

You need to turn on headset signalling in the configuration file:
########### Headset Signaling ##############
##
## HEADSETBIDIR specifies whether bidirectional signaling
## on the headset interface will be enabled or disabled.
## Value Operation
## 0 Disabled (default)
## 1 Switchhook and alerting signaling are both enabled
## 2 Only switchhook signaling is enabled
## This parameter is supported by:
## H1xx SIP R1.0 and later
## 96x1 H.323 R6.3 and later (values 0-2)
## 96x1 H.323 R6.2.1 and later (values 0-1)
## Note that 96x1 H.323 R6.2 only supported signaling for alerting.
## SET HEADSETBIDIR 1

You then need to go into the settings on the phone itself and enable it.

I've never needs to edit any settings in the .txt files, it's just the switches on the headset base that need to be correct and the cable type :)

CS540 works out of the box with the correct cable and default switch settings. I use it all day long with a 9608 when I'm in the office.

HEADSETBIDIR has to be enabled in 46xxsettings.txt. It will be in the autogenerated file bu tI assume amriddle has a template file to upload on every IPO ;-)

Awesome, then my next question for you derfloh, where do I go to access the 46xxsettings.txt file? I had one of our network guys looking and he said it wasn't where someone said it should be.

It is autogenerated by IP Office if it is not on the SD card. A autogenerated file cannot be edited, do the following:
Open a web browser and type http:\\<IP Addres IP Office>\46xxsettings.txt
It will display the autogenerated file, save it as a text file, edit the contents as desired and then using manager > embedded file management to upload the text file to the SD card, it must be in the primary folder.

We've attampted to add SET HEADSETBIDIR 01 to the file, uploaded it with the manager and all that, but the headset still refuses to take the phone off hook on its own. Is there a specific GROUP in that file we should be setting it in? Or does Server Edition IPO not support it?

It has to have the value of 1 instead of 01.

And you have to restart the phone to pull the new settings file.
