Hello,

We use 7940 and 7960 phones and have a problem with headsets. As soon as we connect the headset, the speaker also opens up. We suspect it's a hardware issue because not all the phones have this problem. We allready asked Cisco but they do not know or don't want to know.

Any help appreciated.

Did you plug into the handset port or the dedicated headset port?

It's silly but some headsets need to be plugged in to the handset port as opposed to the dedicated headset port on my 7960 phones. Depends on the headset you're using

We tried both. Also when this happens, we can disconnect the headset but the phone is damaged then. All calls go through the speaker.

After changing the phone the problem is gone. We sent the broken ones back to Cisco now.

But the problem is back again. Seems all phones break after a while allthough we use supported headsets.

Will call Cisco again.

what headset is this specifically?
I use sennheiser (wired) and plantronics (wireless) with success. I will look for the model numbers

We use plantronics headsets but just got an answer. It seems that if you turn op the volume quit a lot, the speaker will also go active.

Will let you know more if i find something!

there was a bug in 7960 phones where if you had the handsfree volume maxed out, even when talking on teh handset you would get some output from the handsfree speaker

1 - no one should need their handsfree volume maxed out
2 - FW Load P00307020200 was the FW version i upgraded to that fixed the "speakerphone leak", I was previously running FW Load P00307000200 when i had the issue

CM 4.1.2

That might be it. We're running P00306000400 but we don't use Call Manager. We use a softswitch from Tekelec (used to be VocalData)
I'm working with Cisco to get the latest version but they are not fast with answers about this.
