I have a book that I want to place the title on each left hand page (top) and the chapter title and each facing page right page (top). How do I do that in Word?

Also, for the actual new chapter pages, I would not want that info. Since there are only 20 chapters, I assume I can simply delete the header info there?

Thanks

To expand on Skip's terse - but accurate - suggestion....

Page Setup > Layout

Check Different odd and even. This will allow differnt headers fo odd and even pages. If you want the FIRST page to be different again (quite common to do so), then also check Different first page.

View > Headers and footers

Put Title in the Even header, Chapter in the Odd header.

When you do the next chapter, make a Section break to start it. This next is important!

View > Headers and Footers when you are in the new section.

TURN OFF Same as previous. Otherwise the headers will carry over into the new section. You must do this. the default IS to carry over (Same as previous).

If you want to carry over the Title (on the even pages) then keep Same as previous. The odd / even page headers are separate - so you could keep the Title continuing on for all the Chapter Sections, but change the odd header to show the new Chapter. Or if you want them blank, yes...delete the text for the headers for the new Sections.

If you only want text in the headers for Chapter 1, then you can make those headers, make a new Section for Chapter 2, turn off Same as previous, delete the header text...and then just go one from there.

It is all in the Sections.
