I heard there is a possiblity to disable somehow HEA switch (reconfigure HEA usage) and use HEA adapter as a physical adapter in P6 systems. In systems then we see adapter not as 'lhea' but commonly like onboard ones in P5. Is that true? Anyone knows how to achieve this?

Hello ogniemi,

As far as I know we can control the parameter -How many ports to be opned for HEA- If you Open just ONE port from HMC selecting the managed system - Harware Information - Adapter - Host Ethernet- select the HEA - Configure- Pending Port Group Multi-Core Scaling value:

Assign to LPAR - now hea dedicated to LPAR- NO other ports to share.

Good Luck !

To use a HEA port as a standard ethernet port:
In the HMC select your server, Task, Hardware Information, Adapters, Host Ethernet.
Select the adapter, select the port, Configure.
In this pane you must select for "Promiscuous" the LPAR you want this port to be assigned to.

See Redbook "Integrated Virtual Ethernet Adapter - Technical Overview and Introduction" (
