I just got the HDX toolkit and was scanning over the Host Data Exchange API Programmer’s Guide.

That is a pretty thick rascal. Anybody got some HDX for Dummys pointers?

For one, do you install the HDX on the SCCS or on some box real close?

All I want for now is to pull some data out of a SQL DB.

What version of SCCS you are used ? In SCCS 5.0 you can use embedded HDX service from Nortel (windows service, namely "Host Application Integration"). It can working with databases throw ODBC-sources. "Database Integration Withard" util is using for tuning ODBC data sources, database logins and passwords, bodies of SQL queries.
In my situation, I work with MS SQL Server and Oracle databases throw "Host Application Integration" and all ok.

My initial foray into the world of HDX is simple... get a single data field from an SQL db. In which case the embedded data integration would most likely suffice; however, in the future I hope to do more with HDX.

As a result, I am trying to get it up and running with this simple action of data retrieval.

Can you tell me where you would typically load the HDX? From reading the PDFs it seems to allude to HDX being on some sort of middle tier server in the general Symposium environment. I was wondering if those people who are using HDX load it on the SCCS, the web server, the db server, or do they allocate a server strictly to the role of being the HDX server?

What version of Symposium Call Center server software is you used ?

Just about everywhere except for the SCCS server...we have it running on our DB server.

If you plan on developing your own HDX app, make sure you write it in such a way that its registered as a service within Windows, this way if the app needs to be restarted...simply restart the service intead of having to reboot the server...
