ok, i got the BSOD and no mater what i tried it would not recognized my HDD.

put the HDD into another XP machine and same BSOD.

finally, slaved it on another XP machine and can see all data. ran Western Digital Diag on it and found no problems.

i am thinking the MBR is probably hosed; any suggestions on next step to recover the OS from this HDD?

TIA

I would be inclined to save all the data from the drive & try a low level format of the drive. It could be the MBR, but unless you can repair this, I don't think there will be much you can do.

am copying everything to another HDD, then i will try to see if i can rescue the problem HDD.

will have to check my archives here and search the forum for suggestions.

TIA

after much searching and being able to recover all work files i have decided to do the format & slipstream a new OS.

thanks for Bcastner putting up the info on making a slipstream of my OS months ago.

resolution:

used my slipstream cd and did the repair option and JOY got my old OS back. just some minor updating to do and it seems like all is right.
