HDD possessed !! 1

I have an IBM 180GXP HDD running Windows Xp SP1, the problem is My HDD, seems to be doing something in the background, because the Light at the front of the case don't stop going on and off, even when the computer is idle or in screen saver mode... I tried to reinstall windows but the problem remains and it's decreasing the performance of my hard drive seriously.
I when through task manager, and deleted "not very important" processes, but it didn't solve anything !!!
Please anyone HELP !!!!!!!!!

Did you turn off "indexing"? Also, if you are running MS Word, check "Find Fast". Check "Scheduled Tasks" and see if AntiVirus is running in background.
