I have been handed a dismantled HDD. The spindle motor is a no go and the motor chip is burnt. I have put the platters into another drive ( Same as ) I know the platters ( 2 of ) are oriented correctly except for their relative rotational position. I have changed the relationship bit by bit ( not those bits) and have found some points where the hdd firmware will complete post and present correctly to bios. Does any one know of utility that may be able to help me. Something that may be able to make sense of the obvious jumble of bits that the heads are seeing and suggest that I rotate this way or that. The drive contains wanted data of course otherwise I would just LL format and smile. The hdd a Samsung SV2044D. I know this is a big ask so I don't want any " your Dreaming " replies. Positives are extremely welcome.

Since each sector is individually addressed I don't expect that your problem is going to be a rotational problem as much as a head to cylinder alignment.
Gibson Research had a hot reformat utility that would rewrite cylinders to align things but don't know if it would be functional on a drive that could be as much out of line as yours could be.
