in windows xp is it possible to partion a large drive (120 GB) that already has a fair amount of data on it without losing any of the data? i dont think it is possible but i thought it would be worth a shout to see

Not without third party software like Partition Magic (Powerquest) or Partition Expert (Acronis).

so i can partition teh drive that has data on it if i have partition magic (which i have). good good

cheers for the info

Make sure your version is compatible with XP (PM8 is best, 7 possibly ok - not sure if using ntfs, check Powerquest documentation), and backup anything vital before you shrink/split the partition (should be ok, but things can go wrong).

PM7 or 8 will do it, even on NTFS. Cheers,
Jim
