I have fitted a new HDD, and copied the data from my old Disk. On power up, the HDD is not recognised by the BIOS. However, if I restart the computer by either the reset switch or Ctrl, Alt, & Delete, it then recognises it. The new HDD is a IBM 20 Gig. Once it has recognised it, everything seems OK. If I shut down the comp. (it is ATX), it then doesn't recognise it again at first power up. Please help!! I've tried setting the BIOS to Optimum settings, but no go.

Sometimes the computer boot speed is too fast for the hard drive and the Fast Boot or Quick Boot feature in the BIOS has to be Disabled. This gives the hard drive time to spin up before P.O.S.T. [Power On Self Testing] gets around to looking at it. Using Reset or warm boot [Ctrl+Alt+Del] has allowed time for the drive to go to work.

Thanks a lot Berton, you're a genius. It's quite obvious now you've told me! Er! Why didn't I think of that? Great site this.
