Folk,
i have spend atleast 4 days now doing R&D on this issue but got no luck see if some one can help me here.
Issue is i have 250 gb Maxtor HDD 16 mb catch now i formated in pc with 250 gb NTFS and my PC win xp shows nice and dundee no problem.
But as soon as i remove that hdd and put it in my Mediagate MG-35 multimedia encloser ( that hdd shows RAW format and ask me to format hdd and it drops the size to 32 GB but i still can format with NTFS.
eventhough its external HDD now.
Now how i can bring my 250 gb drive back in life in this media gate> what trick i need to try?
I tried PM8 and no sucess drive shows 32 gb
tried DM shows same thing 32 gb
all as EHDD
while its internal in PC its fine it shows 250 gb.
what we can try lets challange our self..
please help..
thx

32GB was an old mobo hard drive 'limit'. Some drives have a limiting jumper which restricts their apparent size to 32GB for backward compatibility - though wouldn't have thought 250GB would have one. Are you changing jumper setting between internal & external use? Has the enclosure and configuration requirements/drivers to install that you might have missed? Have you tried it through both interfaces (that website says it has ethernet & USB 2. USB 2 would be much better anyway - its nearly 5 times faster).

Have you tried connecting to another machine - to see if its just your machine or not?

HDDcrimper,

I would look at the Maxtor jumper settings. When in your PC do you have it jumpered as a "Slave". If so when placed into the enclosure If like others, you need to set jumpers to "Master" on the Hard Drive.
that hdd shows RAW format and ask me to format hdd
What program is asking you this?

Maxtor has a program, "MaxBlast4", you might try using this program to setup your HD. You might have it if you received a CD with the drive, if not you can obtain it at their site:

MaxBlast4

Hope this helps

i did 3 things i dont know one worked..but now my HDD shows 250 gb. a happy camper :)

1) Set jumper to Master after i removed from PC formatting in win xp
2) Swap the HDD from PC to EHDD ( i have 2 of 250 gig same model same make )
3) Formated by dos when in pc.

so it might be the work around. i have 6 EHDD so i can swap them from one to ther but folks with 1 might have challange on hand.
