Hi all

Last week while installing a new graphics card, i accidently pinched the power wires to my SATA HDD. ONe of the ground wires was shreed on one side but not severed, i taped the wire in question and the hDD spun up for a day, i had to do this daily to start the OS. However today the drive would not boot up.

What would be the effect of shredding the ground? And if i reconnect the wired will it work again???

thanks

Colin

Most power wires are sized to be able to handle multiple drives, so unless you severed more than 3/4 of the strands I would suspect that you drive problems are separate from what you did to the wire.
It won't hurt to splice in a piece of wire to replace the bad section but I wouldn't expect that it will fix your problem.
