Hi fixing a freinds old Pentium 75.
The HDD Conner CFS1081A is 1gb, gropes in bios as 1gb (ami bios) LBA is enabled in bios.
But on screen startup in dos LBA is shown as off and dos only sees 528mb!!!!
Tried inverting LBA bits in bios no difference!
Fdisk shows no free space and only 528Mb.
Installed W95 on top - no CD boot, W95 shows only 528Mb.

I can not find my copy of partion magic.
Any ideas how to get the full 1gb??

In the interim I've double spaced the drive. I may be able to convince him to spend some money but want to make sure I can get past 528MB

Regards

Have you tried a boot disk that has fdisk which allows large disk support? A Win98 boot disk would be good. this is a start. It may be a problem with the BIOS in which case you would need a Dynamic drive overlay. Seagate has one available on their web site.

The problem lies with the older bios..it won't see anything over 528mb...go here for more info:
you may need a bios upgrade (check first with the manufacturer to see if your bios chip is flashable)...
