When the slave to the primary is connected there are 2 beeps from the bios and it just stops when trying to detect the hard drive. If the slave is disconnected then the system will boot fine. I have an MSI 845GLMS 6754 motherboard and Intel Celeron 1.8 chip.
Can we assume that your primary drive is set to "Master", and not to "Single"?
What happens if the drive that you are trying to use as a slave is set to the secondary master? Mudskipper

Quick! Run out and find me a four year-old child: I can't make heads nor tails out of this!"
That I have not tried yet, I will move it to the secondary connection and try it. At first the drive would show up then after a couple of reboots it would not longer let either drive to be seen by the BIOS.

I will advice you to try jumpering the hard drive.Change it to slave,to secondary Master or even remove the jumper and then see what is going to happen.I think this will help you.I am lemsion14@thuglove.com
